Obama To Sign Disabilities Treaty

Today the President will be signing the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons With Disabilities, in the East Room of the White House. The treaty was open for signatures in 2007, and it entered into force on May 3rd 2008. There is an optional protocol to the treaty that the U.S. will not be signing onto, which allows individuals and groups to petition an international Committee if their rights under the treaty are not being protected (Similar to the CEDAW).
